Internet Surveys

Internet surveys serve many purposes, from showing you your next soul mate to collecting valuable information for many different types of companies. Most surveys can be broken down into two types, those constructed for the administrator of the survey and those constructed for the survey's subject.

Administrator-focused internet surveys are set up to collect information important to whoever is running the survey, usually a company or a non-profit group. Often times companies will offer incentives to complete surveys, either drawings for cash or prizes or sometimes promotional offers for their products. This is because the information collected can provide valuable information for marketing departments, including who buys their products and why. This information is then used by the company or group giving the internet survey to target buyers later on. One problem companies have with internet surveys is that the information they collect is slightly skewed; users who complete the survey are motivated enough to want to complete it on their own and generally prosperous enough to be able to afford home internet access. Other variables also complicate the surveys, including the subject's desire to be on the website in the first place.

Though some sites offer large amounts of cash for completing internet surveys, many of them end up to be fruitless searches of surveys offering drawings for cash in return for completing the surveys as opposed to guaranteed payments. Be particular wary of sites which charge a fee to begin taking paid surveys, as these sites rarely provide the results they promise.

Subject-focused internet surveys are usually designed to provide the subjects information about themselves. Popular surveys can tell you your personality type or give you the characteristics of your ideal mate. Some of these surveys can be extremely helpful. Certain sites allow you to take surveys concerning your interests or hobbies and then suggest possible career paths you may enjoy. Others can give you an idea of how your personality may relate to your interior decorating style or suggest ways to eat or exercise better. Granted, many of these surveys aren't anything near scientific, though some of they may pretend to be.

Though the information collected and dispersed by internet surveys must sometimes be taken with a grain of salt, they are by and large as reliable as most other information collected on the internet. If a reputable site conducts the survey then you're probably safe trusting the results. If the site is dubious or little-known things become more hit or miss.
